PAM NORTHERN CHAPTER (PAMNC) in collaboration with NS BlueScope Malaysia Sdn. Bhd and Le Nam Megasheet is pleased to announce its inaugural “Steel Architecture Design Competition”. With the theam of "Designing for Health", the participants have to design an urban bicycle pavilion by using steel structure. Steel offers a number of benefits in building design include the capacity to bear great loads in tension and compression, high resiliency and performance under harsh and difficult condition. Designing with steel requires an understanding of properties, details and data tables. The program is established around an idea of An Urban Bicycle Pavilion that act as a prototype, rest-stop for cycling enthusiast, and attention-grabbing urban element. Steel must be used as the primary material with emphasis placed on innovative use of lightweight steel with attention aesthetics.
To design and build an urban pavilion which act as an information centre that can be transformed according to the selected festivals. In other words, the design should be modular yet versatile. The design should display the following qualities:
• Design excellence and originality
• Adequate technical comprehension
• Innovative use of material
• Practicality and fit for purpose
• Buildability and maintenance
