The Competition is to seek suitable design ideas to make the Bukit Mertajam Market more competitive and able to meet current needs. The purposed upgrading works will also improve the infrastructure facilities to support the redevelopment of the Public Market which will in turn revive the city of Bukit Mertajam. Objectives of the competition;

1. Developing and upgrading public facilities in line with the surrounding land use development.
2. To encourage creative ideas in the proposed Market/Vendor Complex Modern that is 'not wet' and ''odorless'.
3. "Sustainability & livability" for design proposals & development Layout.
4. Ideas must be in line with the Concept of Sustainable Development in the Urban Resilience Context.
