House is a personal space or a series of spaces. The program responds to the brief of the occupants. This competition allows contestants to develop their own programs. However, the occupants of the house should consist of between 3 to 8 people of immediate and extended family members. Others such as domestic helpers and others can be additional occupants in this program.
Since its formation, Malaysia and its population has evolved in terms of mentality, character, lifestyle, socio-economic stature and culture; and these have come to impact the design of their homes. The tropical hot and humid climate is perhaps the only constant and even this is being challenged by climate change. This competition offers a platform for architects via their designs to explore, narrate record and represent the changes and evolution of the Malaysian house to match current and future aspirations. Architects can research and develop new ideas for what the Malaysian House should be for now and the future.
